eBay 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE - Reserve Lowered from previous listing!
What you are looking at, for the lack of better words, is one bad-ass car! Call it the blue-collar supercar, call it an exotic-killer, or call it whatever you wish. But whatever you decide to call it, know that the Camaro ZL1 1LE is not only the best bang for the buck sports car you can find, it also does it with a balanced approach, and a lot of attitude!
Out of the various sports cars I have owned, none of them come close to drawing the jaw-dropping attention that the ZL1 1LE receives. It literally turns grown men into wide-eyed schoolboys. Why? Well for one, it’s attainable since it’s a 5-figure Camaro. Granted, a Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder for instance looks (and sounds) the part, but most of us can never even imagine owning one of them given the price. The Camaro however, takes us back to a simpler time when high-powered muscle cars (and bands like Led Zeppelin) were king!
And secondly, the ZL1 1LE is a limited edition car that most people have not seen. It may be recognizable as a Camaro, but what’s with the super-aggressive front end, the huge dive-planes, and that big middle-finger of a carbon fiber wing on the back?! Most people ask if I added all of the aerodynamic bits on it as they have no idea that it came from the factory that way.
Speaking of the aerodynamic bits, they exist for a reason. This is not just a one-trick pony that only goes fast in a straight line. This beast was designed to be a sharp track-weapon. At the famed Nurburgring track in Germany, which has become the standard by which all sports cars are measured, it set a blistering time of 7:16:04! That’s the 16thfastest production car ever, and by far the least expensive. To put it into perspective, it’s faster than the $300K Ferrari 488, Nissan GT-R, and the Mercedes SLS AMG to name a few. You can embarrass people with very expensive sports cars at the track with this supercar disguised as a “Muscle Car”.
OK, so we’ve had some fun talking about what it represents in the automotive world, let’s talk some specifics about this car in particular. This is part of the Esoteric-Edition cars produced by Esoteric – Fine Auto Finishing of New Albany, Ohio. Just look up the Esoteric Z06, BMW X5M, and Porsche Turbo S to get an idea of what these cars go through to become the best-looking, best-protected customized examples that you will find.
As for the factory options, it has the PDR (Performance Data Recorder) system, Navigation, and carbon fiber dash insert. Official color is Red Hot.
For starters, it was fully wrapped in STEK Dyno-Shield paint protection film ($9,500). STEK manufacturers hydrophobic top-coated film that delivers THE highest level of clarity available. This isn’t a subjective claim…this is proven by the use of a Rhopoint DOI meter. All of the painted surfaces are covered, providing durable protection to the delicate paint underneath.
Then, the wheels and brake calipers were coated to make cleanup much easier. And to keep the brake dust at bay, I installed Carbotech 1521 brake pads all around for street use. To keep things cool inside, and to compliment the looks, the side and back windows were tinted at 18%, with 70% on the windshield. And since the stock Goodyear tires are flat-out dangerous for conditions outside of 80 degrees and dry, I swapped the tires over to the incredible Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
Because the stock 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque clearly wasn’t enough, I enlisted the team from Carlyle Racing in Plain City, Ohio to increase the performance (and sound) of the mighty Camaro. Below is a break-down of what we did, but to sum it up, the car is an absolute monster that can be driven on a daily basis. Instead of just chasing horsepower, we did the modifications in such a way to boost performance without compromising how it drives around the city streets. At first we gained (at the wheels) 85 HP and 135 pounds of torque, but we backed that down a little bit so that it could be reliable on the track as well.
Performance Modifications:
Kooks long-tube headers
Kooks cat-less mid-pipe
Rotofab intake
Ron Davis high capacity heat exchanger
B3R heat exchanger tank
Metco upper supercharger pulley
Innovators West crank pulley
Elite Engineering E2 Dual Port catch can
WeaponX ported throttle body
Ported supercharger snout
What about the sound? Well, to put it simple, the Camaro sounds ridiculous after adding a set of Kooks Racing long-tube, cat-less headers and a Kooks mid-pipe. I literally smile every single time I hit the start button, as does everybody else who gets to experience it. I kept the stock muffler system so that we could retain the ability to “turn down the sound” with the OEM sound management valve system. When driving at city (or highway) speeds, there is no drone, and it is relatively quiet in the cabin. When you get on the gas however, all hell breaks loose! That is a fitting description since when I went out for a drive with a group of friends, I made a “spirited” pass on a Porsche GT3 with an Akrapovic exhaust system, and the driver said that he literally jumped out of his seat because of the sound that the Camaro produced. He then named my car “Christine” after the great Stephen King book about a possessed car. He simply said that it sounded evil.
As of this writing, I have about 4,695 miles on the car. Of that, it’s only seen the track for ½ of a day. I took it out for a couple of test & tunes to get it all “right”, then I spent an afternoon running around Mid-Ohio. Should you have a desire to go to the track from time to time, the Camaro is absolutely amazing. But if you just like to drive on the streets, you’ll be just as amazed with its performance, and its presence.
With the Limited Edition Camaro ZL1 1LE, you get a great combination of performance, presence, and value. There were not many of these made, so chances are slim that you’re going to run into another one at your local Cars & Coffee. It’s an absolute blast to drive…engaging, visceral, and beast-like. And for the money, you simply can’t touch it.
I have over $94K invested into this car including the cost of the vehicle, plus the modifications / add-ons.
If you’re looking for a fantastic, limited edition vehicle with performance, provenance, and an attitude, then this particular Camaro ZL1 1LE is for you!
Serious inquiries only, please. Vehicle is located in Columbus, Ohio. Local pick-up preferred, however I can work with buyer on shipping vehicle (at buyer's expense). Selling / shipping into United States only.
NOTE: Some of the photos show it with Forgeline wheels. These have been sold, and the car comes with the OEM wheels...which in my opinion, look much better! Also the number plate on the side was for photo purposes. They are not on the car.
