Ready for Adventure?! I’m the 3rd owner, owned for about a month but my job went better than expected and got another vehicle.
Overall great runner. Drove it from Georgia with no issues. However last week while driving up one of the mountains in some hot weather, the engine started to get warmer than it should (not in the red, but close). When I started going downhill, the temperature dropped back to normal. I had the coolant flushed and replaced the thermostat but it will still occasionally get above normal operating temperature when going up steep hills in hot weather and return to normal on the downhills. Next step was to remove and clean the radiator as that could be a possible cause. As far as I can tell, nothing has happened with the engine due to the overheating. Oil is still normal color (no sign of head gasket issues). I was driving it around town with no issues.
Let's get the “negatives” out of the way:
- Gets warm while climbing mountains in hot weather. Ok around town.
- Check engine light comes on with P0420 code which could be O2 sensor or catalytic converter. Resetting the code will last 100-500 miles.
- Could use new struts (about $300-1000 depending on if you do it yourself or take it to the shop)
- It is 13 years old and does have some wear and tear. I would rate the vehicle as being Good on KBB.
- Recently changed fluid; oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant.
-Tires have about 5000-10000 miles left on them. Drivers side tire does have a little more wear on outer edge, likely due to worn struts.
-Fairly new brakes
-Fully loaded from that era
* power everything
* partial wood Momo steering wheel
* lots of room
Great vehicle for around town, first car or fix it up to perfection.
