Purchased this exceedingly rare Swedish land rocket in Fresno in January 2015 had it exported here, but it mostly sat in my warehouse, so I thought I'd let someone else enjoy it.
The first Viggens in 1999 were already impressive at 225 horsepower (@ 5,500 RPM) and 252 lb-ft of torque available at just 2,500 RPM all the way to 4,500 RPM. The engine is 2.3-litre turbo-charged 4-cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder. Maximum torque is available for 30% of the usable power band. In 2000 (mine) this was bumped up to 230 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. In 1999 it was already able to beat the Porsche 911 Carrera in both efficiency of producing HP and torque per liter of engine displacement. In 2000 those improvements over the Porsche were 15% (HP) and 52% (lb-ft).

First, the Viggen. If you're going to name a car after a fighter jet, it had better be badass, and the Viggen certainly is. The car is a hotted-up version of the first generation 9-3, the one that debuted in the late 1990s and replaced the iconic 900 with something more modern, more streamlined, and to the chagrin of some purists, more GM-y.
But the Viggen was where it was at. The car packed a 2.3-liter engine with a bigger-than-normal Mitsubishi turbo that cranked out 225 (later 230) horses and a whopping 258 pound-feet of torque, numbers that would make it competitive today.
Zero to 60 mph came in the mid-6 second range, and it also boasted a host of improvements over the base 9-3 like a performance ECU tune, a more potent exhaust and intercooler, and an upgraded chassis, suspension, brakes and sports tires. MotorTrend was right in 1999 to compare it to Saab's version of the BMW M cars.

This is a-never-smoked-in beauty that looks and smells new. The car was garage kept. Judging from the miles and the condition of the car - most of its miles were driven on the highway.
The cars exterior is gray that has a deep sparkling shine to it. The cars exterior is in great condition.
The engine sounds, runs and feels smooth and provides abundant power. It's a very reliable and economical engine – due to the great SAAB Turbo it has - which means you get a lot of power and considerably save on gas.
All the electrical options appear to be in working order.
The A/C blows ice-cold and the heating works as it should.
The interior is in very good shape and shows little wear (the pictures show the interior is in great condition). The front seats lean all the way back, so you can actually sleep rather comfortably in the car!
The trunk is very clean and very roomy for a convertible, and as you can see has all the SAAB tools that came with the car.
This is a unique, hard to find car, that is painted with an attractive color that fits this convertible very well.

The Viggens large oil and water-cooled turbocharger produces maximum boost pressure of 1.4 bar, or a full 20 psi.
