eBay Take a look at one of the coolest cars ever built. Not the most powerful, nor the most expensive, nor the most nimble, nor the most prestigious, but a car that will get “thumbs up” every time it hits the road. This is a No Reserve auction. The highest bidder will own this car in 7 days, as long as they can pay.
Now, let’s get to the story of this wonderful 1971 Volvo 1800E. I remember watching “The Saint” when I was a young teenager. If you’re looking at this ad, you probably know that Roger Moore, prior to his James Bond days, played a British agent who drove an 1800. The car was more of a signature of the series than Roger. I knew way back then I had to own one some day.
In 2002, I bought my first 1971 1800E, and I loved it. However, it had an automatic transmission, which didn’t ever seem quite right for a car like this. Roger ran his little beauty through the gears getting away from bad guys, so that’s what I wanted to do. I sold my automatic and started looking for a stick shift. I wanted one built from 1970-1972 because Volvo used the B20E fuel injection, high compression engines in those years. This was a much better engine than the B18 or B20 carburetor engines used in earlier models. I found the perfect car in Phoenix in 2004. It fit the bill, so I won the eBay auction.
I drove it from Phoenix to Salt Lake in July, 2004 during the high heat of summer. The car drove cool and steady cruising at 75-80 mph, even with the original Volvo AC on full blast, and gaining elevation. It was a lot of fun, and every other driver on the road had to gaze admiringly with “thumbs up”.
My insurance agent suggested that I get a professional, certified appraisal to verify the car's value in the event it might be stolen or totaled. You will see a picture of that 2005 appraisal in the photo gallery. I believe the appraisal, valuing this little beauty at $11,450 then, speaks for itself. Given that the car is 14 years more collectible with only 4,000 more miles on her, one would assume it's value has increased.
I intended to invest some dough to get this little beauty in really excellent condition, which mainly meant a top-notch new paint job and new window rubber. The Phoenix sun had taken its toll on those items. The rest of the car was in pretty fine shape. But, as can happen so many times, I got sidetracked by being diagnosed with an uncurable blood cancer in early 2005. Long story short, I’ve had 3 stem cell transplants since then, and Thank God, I’m still kicking. But I unfortunately can no longer give this cool car what it deserves.
The car had 125,105 miles when I bought it, and currently has 130,280. Obviously, I haven’t driven it much over the last 14 years. I never drove it in rain or snow, and it has spent its leisure time garaged and covered. Consequently, it has virtually no rust (see pictures). The odometer, speedometer, gauges, and overdrive work correctly. The chrome and glass are in good shape. It still needs that new paint job, the window rubber, new tires, a new battery, and a good overall service.
I purchased new window rubber but never got the chance to put them in. They are included. Other items included are a car cover, original manual, service manuals, service records since I owned it, original Volvo radio (prior owner installed a newer audio unit with CD player), Take a good look at the pictures to get the full story.
With new tires, a good tune up, and a new battery, this little beauty could easily be a fine daily driver. If you add a little TLC and an excellent paint job, this car will be a real show-stopper. Some lucky bidder will be getting a peach of a car. Email any questions. Good luck and thanks for looking.

Greetings to all lookers and bidders,
We will be removing some current listing pics and adding new ones that address the most common questions, so please save all current photos you want to keep. We bought a new battery today so we wouldn't have to jump it on every start. She fired up and ran great. I drove her around the block a couple of times and it was great fun. She shifted smoothly through the gears and the clutch and park brake work well. That was as far as I was willing to go with old tires, no insurance, and no registration. The car is so cool, I actually had second thoughts about selling her, but she deserves a new owner who can really maximize her beauty and potential.
We took the seat covers off and the seats were in great shape, especially the passenger side. It's virtually flawless. The drivers side shows a little wear where your shoulder rubs when you get in, but amazing shape overall. The seat covers are top quality merino wool with a great fastening system. They've done a terrific job of preserving the seats.
We drove her up on ramps so we could get a better look at her underside. That looks great too. The exhaust system has minimal rust, if any. The rocker panels are also in great shape
The AC blew cold, the stereo sounds excellent. Both the upper and lower dash have one crack, but the custom dash covers have done a great job protecting them from more damage over the years.
I believe this update covers all the questions we've been asked. Check back again in a few hours to see new pictures that verify this commentary. Please remember to save any pictures from the current listing since we will be deleting some to make room for new ones. Please feel free to ask more questions if you have them. We want everyone to be fully informed. Please remember that I am not a mechanic, but I'm giving you my honest opinion. Remember that shipping is the auction winner's responsibility. Thanks again for looking. I'm confident the lucky auction winner will be very happy. Good luck.

Please if you want new pictures please rewrite us and ask specifically what you want. We have taken pictures of the rocker panels, the beautiful leather seats, the underneath, dash and a video of the car sporting up the street.
