eBay Fully restored 1968 Oldsmobile 442. Numbers matching 400 engine (professionally rebuilt to W30 specs by legendary engine builder Bob Small in San Clemente, California), complete factory w30 OAI system, 700R4 transmission, power disc brakes, power steering. Started off with a clean, rust free California car- spent over $18K on paint- stripped to the metal and painted with DuPont.
Driven one weekend per month to shows- has won Best in Class or Best of Show nine times in the past two years at big shows.
Drives like it’s on rails, engine dynoed and made 435 horsepower at the crank. Stops on a dime, handles great, never overheats and does not have a single squeak or rattle.
Rare optioned car- definitely a custom order for someone who wanted to race it. Factory dog dish wheels, bench seat, column shift automatic with posi- reared. Most people who wanted a purely “go fast” car would opt for a Chevelle due to the lower sticker price- it’s rare to find a 442 that’s not full of comfort features.
Build sheet was under the rear seat when I go the car but was nothing more than a big square of dust- nothing legible. The car had OEM W30 induction setup and red front fenders when I got it, but without a build sheet it’s impossible to know if it is a real W30 or not. A previous owner could have added the OAI kit, but there’s no way of knowing without the build sheet. Therefore, I am not selling it as, nor am I claiming that it is a factory W30. I am just a big fan of air induction cars and kept the OAI system on the car during restoration. I also opted to replace the red front fender wells with black fender wells, as I found the red to be distracting on the all black and white car.
Every nut and bolt on the car is new, restored OEM or NOS. All chrome and paint is a 10, as well as the entire interior. I have around $80,000- $90,000 invested in the car and never planned to sell it. I am fortunate to have a relatively large collection of 14 cars- all fully restored- ranging from a fully documented 70 442 W30 Convertible to GTO Judges. I say this not to brag but to make it clear that my standards are very high when it comes to the quality of a restoration. I don’t have any more room in my building and want to find an extended Wrangler or CJ so that I can enjoy riding with my wife and two boys (3 and 1). There’s not enough room in the 442 for two child seats, a wife and a father in law, so it needs to go to make room.
This is the nicest driving 442 I have ever encountered. Absolutely no disappointments. I’m happy to answer any questions- those which I cannot answer will be directed to the guys who restored the car for me.
