GENERAL BACKGROUND...The 1953 Studebaker Commander once again proved the forward-looking genius of Raymond Loewy, the world famous industrial designer hired by Studebaker to position the brand as a design leader. Unquestionably the sleekest coupe of 1953, it was so advanced that the body formed the basis of many Studebaker models all the way through the handsome 1964 Studebaker Golden Hawk.
IMPROVEMENT DETAILS...since 6-volt originality has been maintained, a heavy-duty Cadillac starter was installed due to its proven ruggedness in these applications. Major re-wiring of the car, and repair of the overdrive were also done. New upholstery, carpet, and headliner were major interior upgrades.
A MAINTAINED CLASSIC RATHER THAN A FULL-RESTORATION…it is important for the new owner not to expect a car that has been completely disassembled and “made new” on a cost-no-object basis. Rather, the car has been maintained, and has many original and un-restored components. The current driver has driven it only locally for enjoyment and participation in local shows – where it has been a trophy winner.
Until this month, the car had been “hibernating” since October. Like most all 65-year old classic cars, they are not happy upon being awakened, and a fair amount of tinkering was necessary to get it running again. We report this only to prepare those who may be new to classic car ownership. The fact is, that “every day is an adventure”. What works well on Monday, might not work the same way on Tuesday. It took tremendous determination to keep this historic Studebaker on the road for 65 years, and continued repairs and maintenance (often without notice) must be expected as part of its ownership.
LOCATION: Loganville, GA (36 miles northeast of Atlanta)
EXCELLENT INVESTMENT – cars of the 1950s are highly coveted. Raymond Loewy’s design work was well established by this era and arguably became best known through his association with Studebaker. For this reason alone, the 1953 Studebaker Commander will always be viewed as one of the most significant styling exercises of the decade, and also as one of the wisest investments.
THE FIRST 12 PICTURES will give you a general overview of this very fine looking Studebaker Commander, but if you are seriously interested...please be sure to look at ALL 100+ images because we want you to see EVERYTHING.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING...TO SEE ALL THE IMAGES: There are over 100 images that will show the car in great detail. BUT, to see ALL of the images, you MUST place your cursor DIRECTLY ON an image...and then scroll gently ALL the way to the bottom (be sure to allow time for all the images to load). Over 2,900 TRANSACTIONS WITH HAPPY PEOPLE! As of the date of this listing, we've had over 2,900 transactions (both Buying and Selling) on eBay without a single complaint. We also give a very detailed description of the car...not just a couple sentences like many listings.

IMPERFECTIONS - NO car is perfect. This car is a very nice survivor and quite frankly, is a stunner both on the road and at local shows. But there are some scratches and other imperfections in the paint here and there - some of the chrome and stainless is good - and some chrome is a bit pitted and some stainless has varied dimples and depressions. It was never intended to be a “trailer queen” - but rather – to be something that looks sharp and that can be driven without concern for every rock chip or bug mark that is natural to occur on any car that is driven.
It has been our goal to put the camera everywhere that a discerning buyer would look. In many cases, the camera is showing you how nice the car is. However, if we see a defect, we show it. You will see examples of some imperfections specifically pointed out in the images as examples of what you should expect...so please be sure to examine ALL 100+ images.
During the photo-session, we noted that the horn, radio, lighter, and one tail-light were not operational. We were able to operate the left side vent open/closed…but not the right.
ODOMETER NOTE...17,255 miles are indicated on the odometer. Due to its 1953-era 5-digit design limitations, it is impossible to know the actual mileage of the car since new, and no representations as to original mileage are being made.
PAYMENT DETAILS: Payment is due within 2-business days of auction's end via Bank to Bank wire transfer.
INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS are welcome, but MUST adhere to the SAME Payment Terms detailed above and also make all arrangements for the pick-up and importation of the Vehicle into the Buyer's country.
ABOUT ME: I am an avid Classic Car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as a collector, and also market collectible/investment vehicles for friends, fellow enthusiasts, and other clientele. This classic 1953 Studebaker is owned by a fellow classic car enthusiast.
Please Note: as of this date, we have had over 2,900 eBay transactions with 100% Positive Feedback...this includes the sale of many Classic Cars to Buyers all over the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan and throughout the United States.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENT & FINAL REMARKS: A Bill of Sale and the original Georgia Registration document will be provided to the Buyer.
NOTE: Georgia did not begin to title automobiles until 1962. Therefore, NO automobile of a model year older than 1962 has a Georgia title. Instead, the registration document becomes the government-issued ownership document (which indicates “Non-Title” on it…so that you know that a title was not issued). All states must observe the titling laws of all other states, so you will be able to register, insure, and drive this car in any state. However, whether your state chooses to issue a title is entirely up to your particular state’s titling rules. Please inquire at your local DMV to determine whether your state will issue a title or not.
This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied due to age. All classic cars (even the most expensive) will require continual maintenance, service, and repair - often without warning. As it has not been tested for long-distance driving, we recommend that it be transported to its new owner. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible. Therefore - before the auction's end - bidders are welcome to examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final.
Please be sure to review ALL the images and ALL the captions because they relate important information too!
