Offered for bid is a really nice 1939 Packard Six Touring Sedan, Series 1700. The chassis number is 1-282-2425 and the odometer shows 63,333 which I feel is the correct mileage. 1939 was the first year Packard offered overdrive and the gear shift was moved from the floor to steering column as well. The car has overdrive (an option) and it works great. In addition to overdrive the car has a factory radio, heater/defroster, clock, front and rear center bumper guard and upgraded hood ornament. I purchased the car in January of 2016 through Motorland, LLC in Arundel, ME. The car had been in the esteemed Eugene Beardslee collection and was offered at a Bonhams auction in 2012 following his death. The car did not sell at auction and was purchased privately from whom I purchased the car. Bonhams did report in 2012 a leaking radiator core was discovered, and the radiator was re-cored to cure the troubles. The car is very original with no modification or alterations made. I was immediately impressed with how solid the car was. Eugene Beardslee, the believed second owner of the car, subjected the car to a complete paint job and mechanical rebuild when he purchased the car. All early records of the car have been lost but the paint and rebuild were possibly in the 60's or 70's. The car was then added to his collection in a museum type environment until 2012. The paint has held up well as pictured but close inspection will find some spider type cracking. The interior is original. A seat cover has been installed on the lower front seat cushion. The rear seat has a couple wear spots and the headliner shows some degradation in the left rear area. It is a real time capsule and shows very well. I had the car at two local shows last year and brought home a trophy each time. When I purchased the car the engine was running rough. Sadly the fan had been installed backwards at the mechanical rebuild. This problem was compounded by the fact the temperature gauge did not work. The engine had been overheated and I overhauled the original engine in 2016. New fuel pump, water pump, ring gear, etc. and temperature gauge was sent out for repair. I did a complete job and all receipts and records since purchase will be transferred with the car. The transmission was removed and resealed in November of 2017. The reverse/1st gear and reverse pinion were worn and replaced as well. For best performance I have just replaced all tires, including the spare, with Lester wide whitewall tires. The car should be ready to enjoy. An article on the car is included in The Packard Cormorant, The international magazine of the Packard Automobile Classics, Fourth Quarter 2017. The car will be sold complete as shown. There are a few tools and lug wrench in addition to the jack and wooden box in trunk. The Packard spare bulb kit is in the glove compartment. Reprint owners and shop manual as well as other literature I have collected will be included with the car. Please ask any questions you may have. If you live close enough please come for inspection and ride. Send an agent if you would like. Thank you for your interest.

“Very solid original car in top mechanical condition, only 63,333 miles and everything on car works. Engine overhauled last year, Transmission resealed November of 2017. A new set of Lester wide white wall tires, including spare, just installed. Original interior with seat cover on lower front cushion. The car had a mechanical restoration including paint when Eugene Beardslee purchased the car (probably in the 60's or 70's) and put the car in his collection. The paint now shows some slight cracking. The rear seat is showing some minor wear as well as headliner in left rear. The car shows well, drives great and always draws a crowd.”
